So many people struggling with their mental and emotional health believe that they “should” be able to manage challenges on their own, which makes getting effective support all the more difficult.
As a therapist, I am passionate about creating a space where taking the first step feels safe. Working together, I want to help you gain clarity, build hope, and move forward through this process—ultimately paving the way to greater self-confidence and self-compassion.
The path toward therapy came naturally for me. I have always been deeply curious about what shapes us as humans and how we make meaning from our experiences. That pull, to really understand each person, is what led me to this work. Throughout my life, I’ve found real purpose in helping others gain clarity and perspective.
For decades, I have worked in all levels of care within the field, including time spent as a manager and director of an inpatient program. But my real passion has always been in direct support of clients in therapy.
When my wife Olga and I launched SideDoor Counseling, our aim was to build an inclusive practice that nurtures insight and lasting change for our clients. As members of and allies with the LGBTQIA+ community, we value openness and cultural competency. At our practice, you will find a sense of connection that is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and open communication.
My areas of specialization include:
In addition to extensive training in these fields, I hold a deep, personal understanding of the ways in which these challenges shape a person’s life—often quietly and beneath the surface.
I use a combination of behavioral therapies, trauma-informed body-based approaches, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to help you learn how to increase flexibility and respond to yourself, your thoughts, and your relationships with greater freedom and intention. I also rely on honesty, empathy, and humor when appropriate to nurture a sense of hope and forward momentum.
When I’m not busy at work, I like traveling to new places and exploring different cultures—particularly through food, coffee, and music. I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, trying new recipes and flavors inspired by the places I’ve been.
Whether I’m going somewhere new or somewhere familiar, I aim to bring my curiosity and sense of adventure on the journey.
Together in therapy, we can explore what’s beneath the surface to make room and create the next steps for lasting change. Contact me to get started in counseling.
